Contemporary debates weather listening to secular songs is baffling believers. It started of with a gospel singer published a "secular-sounding"video, much worse she performed with non Christian artists. I hear people arguing which was worse, singing the song or working with non Christian artists. Ethiopian protestant church has been known to be so conservative when it comes to matters of secular songs. Be it a love song or a song about washing hands or getting up so early to go to work it has all been condemned sin. People who do so are outcasts and the wrath is more terrifying if you are by any means a performer of this sort. Let me put my firm stand on this matter that I think secular songs are of zero benefits for a believer. I do not think they are necessarily a gateway to hell fire as they say so [whereby Gelatians 5 is overstated by many] I just think a believer is so busy training to be more Christ like and shouldn't be dealing with matters as silly. When...

Like many raised in Christian family,I was thought to pray in the morning, before meals and be thankful. But it took some growing up to really understand the true significance of giving God credit to everything, including those you think you achieved on your own. At times we get used to God's gifts and think it's just there for us to enjoy or we worked for it. On Luke 12, Jesus spoke about a man who stored products that may keep him "happy and satisfied "for long. There is no question about the decipline or the hard work from this man. It doesn't say this guy stole or cheated or by any means acquired his wealth inappropriately. It's all the products he achieved fair and square. He worked so hard, he stored and he can live long happy, after all that how it has always been! All the men before him, all who worked hard to store they have all enjoyed thier wealth for long. So how can he be different? You work, you collect your enjoy! Little did he know it's n...

I like how Jesus told his deciples not to be anxious. He straight up told them not to be anxious, he was very sure that they will be in that state. He understood how we as humans have the natural propensity to be anxious. We all do. I like to think anxiety and fear different. Fear for me is when you objectively observe how a certain matter will harm you, anxiety is when you don't know. When you don't see what's about to hurt you, when you speculate harm before facing it is anxiety for me. Fear is now and anxiety has some futuristic component to it. That's where Jesus said not to be at. Don't be anxious. He states the birds of the sky and Lillies of the field to elaborate how they are not in control of their provision but still get enough to live and stay beautiful. These are tough times for all of us, but besides being careful and doing what you do, we should not be anxious. You can have the freedom to worry as much as you want but as Jesus said the outcome of i...

The impact of society on our lives is innumerable, if you let it gets to decide what you are and about to be. Since the sole construction is based on patterns, it wants to make you part of a pattern, thus no room for extra oridnary. If as a Christian we are restricted to the societal patterns, we get so tied up and we won't trust God's amazing plan for lives. From the words of Chuck Swonindoll, when God speaks of the supernatural, we nag him with the possible. Those close neighbors of Elizabeth, c...

How I attended a three hour mezmur concert and learned a life lesson Just a week back I attended a concert by two of my favorite Christian singers of all time, Bety Wolde and Lilly Tihahun. Obvious enough I went elated and the program did not disappoint. Besides the spiritual blessings with the worship songs I learned these five lessons to Christian in ministry from a three hour service. 1. Love the people you serve with Being a huge admirer of both singers, I probably had impaired judgment in thinking everything they did was adorable. But the inevitable fact is these two ladies love each other. Seeing them sing a duo with hand on the shoulder of the other made me think how often do we see this in church? We often see our brothers in ministry as colleagues, work mates or just partners. The love for one another is one of the biggest topics in Christ’s ministry (Rom 12:10,1Tes 4:9 and Ps 133:1) . But loving our brothers in ministr...

Crushed by the slaughter of Ethiopian Christians, (or at least mostly Christians) in Libya got me thinking how far people are willing to go for the truth they believe in. The big picture being the fact that the people in yellow outfit being slaughtered, I also had the curiosity of seeing the men in black with face masks on, ready to make use of the big silver knives on their hands and subsequently doing so. In this short life of mine, I have seen people doing many cruel stuff but this is by far the cruelest thing I have ever witnessed! The natural reaction for such act being sad and broken (at least for me), these men had their heads up, celebrating of their "achievement"! It comes obvious that there was some serious brain-washing preceding this un-natural reaction. People can do what-ever they want to if they are convinced thoroughly. The things we think are obvious and natural are not necessarily universal, rather personal results of continuous brain-washing....

In medicine, we have a thing called referred pain. If you haven’t grasp is already, it’s when one part of your body gets sick and the pain gets diverted to another organ. The reason behind is the nerve supplying the affected part also supplies the other “un-involved” part; in simple words, one feels pain essentially on the “wrong spot!” Externally speaking, these organs seem healthy without the original pain being on site, but they feel the excruciating effects of the injury, even worse at times! I have taken the freedom to extend this concept to a greater scale. In a way, assuming what would have happened if the original insult happened on the referred site, whether the secondary part is protected from an injury of that scale? What if the acid burning the gastric mucosa was poured on the back; what if the effects of tuberculosis causing heart damage were applied to the shoulder? The truth, I think, is some of the secondary sites are less protected; the only thing keeping them from...
